Koichi Shimizu, born 1972, is a musician, sound designer, producer based in Japan. Active since the late 90s, Shimizu has worked in the field of electronic music and sound design for film, performance and sound installations. As a sound designer/engineer, he works regularly with Thai film director Apichatpong Weearsethakul, a collaboration that started from 2007. Apart from being the sound designer for a number of his films, Shimizu also worked on Apichatpong’s first widely toured theatre work “Fever Room” and produced the compilation album “METAPHORS / Selected Soundworks from the Cinema of Apichatpong Weerasethakul” released in 2017. After living in Bangkok for nearly twenty years, Shimizu relocated himself back to Japan in 2020 and released solo EP “Imprint”. In 2022, he released "Demon State" first collaborative album with Singaporean collective The Observatory from Berlin base label, Midnight Shift.
