1973年に米カリフォルニアで生まれのヒップホップ／ブレイクビーツアーティスト。トリップホップやアブストラクトヒップホップというシーンを作り上げた張本人であり、オリジナル作品の他、多くのミックス作品やコラボレート作品を発表している。
90年代初頭に学生時代の友人、ブラッカリシャスらと共に自主レーベル、Solesidesを設立しミックステープ他自主盤をリリース。
96年、ジェームス・ラヴェル主宰レーベル、Mo'Waxから『エンドトロデューシング』でデビュー。このアルバムは現在に至るまでブレイクビーツの金字塔作品として歴史に燦然と名を残している。
99年、盟友でプロデューサーのカット・ケミストと共にファンクの7インチシングルのみで制作したミックスCD『ブレインフリーズ』を発表。ミックス作品史上最も重要な作品のひとつと言われている。
02年に発表した2作目『ザ・プライヴェート・プレス』は全米ダンスチャート3位／全英8位を獲得し世界的ブレイクを果たした。
06年、ヒップホップ・カラーを強めた3作目『ジ・アウトサイダー』（全米ダンス2位／全英24位）を発表し、新たなファン層を開拓。
11年、4作目『ザ・レス・ユー・ノウ・ザ・ベター』（全米ダンス5位／全英34位）を発表。
