東京を拠点に、ニューヨーク / ロンドン発ディープ・ハウスのダンスフロアで支持されてきたダズルドラムス。結成10年を経て遂に完成した1st アルバム！
Danny Krivitに見出され2005年にNY名門レーベル〈King Street Sounds / Nite Grooves〉よりデビューし、今年活動10周年となるDazzle Drumsが遂に初アルバムをリリースする。近年はTony Humphriesの〈Tony Records〉やLouie Vega pres. Elements Of Lifeヴォーカリスト兼パートナーAnaneの〈Nulu Electronic〉、UKの〈Makin Moves〉、〈Centric Music〉などからも楽曲を発表し、昨年はDJ EMMA監修のアシッド・ハウスのコンパイル盤『Acid City』のきっかけとなった2曲を提供した。
本アルバムにはJoaquin Joe ClaussellやDanny Krivitがヘヴィー・プレイした“Round Midnight”、Beats In Space主宰Tim Sweeneyと交流のきっかけとなった“Falling Up”、新機軸の日本語ディープ・ハウス“Silence”や表題作のテック・ハウス“Rise From The Shadows”、日本を代表するハウス・ダンサー陣とのコラボレートにより生まれた“Universal Rhythm”など、彼ら自身のルーツとなるソウルフル・ハウスを活動の基軸にしながらも、近年のヨーロッパで支持されている硬質で空間性のあるスタイルも取り入れている。常にダンスフロアと向き合い、新旧織り交ぜたエモーショナルなDJプレイで、自身が毎月主宰する〈Block Party〉を中心に着実にファンを増やしてきた彼ら。10年の軌跡と、今後の方向性を指し示す凝縮した１枚。

2人と出会い十数年が過ぎた。ナギとは、自分のBARに手伝いに来てくれた時、それからシンセを譲り今に至る。ケイはDJ HIRO君からの紹介、たった1日でクローズしたMOTHERで、僕のDJを照明でサポートしてくれた事、鮮明に覚えてる。そんな2人が今一緒にいるのも驚きだが2人が目指す音楽は、2人と接するとよくわかる。まずは1stアルバムおめでとう！ここからがスタートだ！応援してますよ！日本初？世界初？の夫婦DJとしてもね。笑……今作品の内容に触れる事は次回にしておきます。

Unfortunately due to my being extremely busy building the cosmic arts music and art center in New York, I did not have a chance to listen to “Rise from the Shadows”. However, I don't really have to. Because what I expect from Dazzle Drums is an honest effort to create quality music. However, more important than the music and maybe even more powerful is the story behind how “Rise from the Shadows” produced by husband Kei Sugano and Wife Nagi Sugano known to the world as Dazzle Drums came to be. Aside from exchanging vows of promise and love to one another, Dazzle Drums have also made a commitment as husband and wife to intertwine their individual loves affairs with music to create one harmonic rhythm. Having known both of Nagi and Kei, I can safely tell you that what they create together encompasses love, passion and devotion. This among all things should be recognized as something incredibly special. So if you’re in need for something other than the music to inspire you, then listen without judgment-not only to the sounds coming from the speakers, but the spirit of devotion, which for me is very important. Dazzle Drums has committed themselves to create as husband and wife but has in the process become One Music and are now a force to watch out for. I hope that the outcome of “Rise from the Shadows” will as the title suggest, lift these two young souls out from behind thus enabling them to walk side by side with other established dance music artist in Japan. Because not only will it inspire more couples as well as young producers to do the same- but because Japan, as well as the rest of world are in need of it.
残念ながら現在ニューヨークにコズミックアートセンターとコズミックアートミュージック作成に非常に忙しい為に、僕は“Rise from the Shadows”を聴く機会を持てていません。しかしながら、聴くまでもなく、僕はDazzle Drumsの実直で良質な音楽を期待しています。重要な事は音楽その物よりも、”Rise from the Shadows”が夫婦であるケイ、ナギ／菅野によっていかに力強い物語を下地にプロデュースされダズルドラムの世界へと昇華させられたかという事です。夫婦の絆/約束という事は横に置いておいても、ダズルドラムスはお互いの献身的な愛の絡み合いの中から音楽／リズムを作っていく。ナギとケイという人物を知ると、私は安心して彼らの創造というものが愛、情熱、献身に包まれて出来ていると言う事が出来る。これは何か特別な信じられない様な物に包まれている事に気が付くだろう。ですので、普通に音楽を聴くだけでなく、ただスピーカーから聞こえて来る音だけでなく、その音楽の情熱を感じる事が僕には重要な事です。ダズルドラムスは夫婦であるだけでなく、一つの音楽となる事に全身全霊を傾けている、僕は“Rise from the Shadows”の結果がタイトル通りに、この二つの若い魂が日本の他のアーティスト達と共に昇って行く事を願っている。何故なら日本の同じ様な若い制作者だけでなく、他のどの地域の制作者も同じであるからである。
